25 February 2014 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and Directions Media invite government information system managersto attend a free webinar on the newOGC GeoPackage Encoding Standard,an open standard for accessing spatial data on mobile devices. Thewebinar, fifth in a series of OGC GovFuture Webinars, will be held on 5 March2014 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm EST (GMT-5:00 hours).
You will learn:
- HowGeoPackage APIs increase cross-platform interoperability of location apps and spatialWeb services in a mobile environment
- About lightweightmobile apps that tap into a mix of powerful cloud-based location services anddata
- HowGeoPackage works in situations where Internet access is intermittent ordisconnected
- HowGeoPackage is useful for applications in mobile workforce data capture, providing information during municipal operations, for example, or an emergencyevent
Therecently approved OGC GeoPackageEncoding Standard enables easier exchange and sharingof geospatial (or location) information across different devices, applicationsand web services throughout the mobile world. A modern, service-oriented alternative to conventionalspatial data formats, GeoPackage's SQLite-based format efficiently stores andtransfers geographic vector features and image tiles. GeoPackage was developedfor mobile application developers whose applications need to provide users withgeospatial application services and associated data in disconnected or limitednetwork connectivity environments, or whose applications depend on geospatialdata and processing services from diverse sources.

Thespeakers will be introduced by Raj Singh, Director of InteroperabilityPrograms, OGC.
About the OGC
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)is an international consortium of more than 470 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus processto develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC standards supportinteroperable solutions that “geo-enable” the Web, wireless andlocation-based services, and mainstream IT. OGC standards empower technologydevelopers to make geospatial information and services accessible and usefulwith any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
