The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) invites developers and other contributors to the March 2025 Open Standards Code Sprint, to be held from March 25-27, with a pre-event webinar at 14:00 UTC on March 13. The code sprint will be a virtual event, held on OGC’s Discord server. Participation is free and open to the public. See below for how to register.
As always, this will be a collaborative and inclusive event to support the development of open standards and applications that implement those standards. All OGC Standards are in scope for this code sprint, including OGC API Standards. Code Sprints experiment with emerging ideas in the context of geospatial standards and help improve interoperability of existing standards by experimenting with new extensions or profiles. They are also used for building proofs of concept to support standards development activities and enhancing software products. Non-coding activities such as testing, working on documentation, or reporting issues are welcomed. The sprints also provide an opportunity to onboard developers that are new to the standards, through the sprint’s mentor stream.
A one-hour pre-event webinar will take place on the OGC Discord Server at 14:00 UTC on March 13. It will outline the scope of work for the code sprint and provide an overview of the specifications that will be its focus.
The code sprint begins at 9:00 AM UTC on March 25th with an onboarding session, and ends at 5:00 PM UTC on March 27th. To learn more about future and previous OGC code sprints, visit the OGC Sprints website, the OGC Developer Events Wiki, or join the OGC Discord server.
Registration is at no-cost, open to anyone, and can be found on the March 2025 Code Sprint website.
Event Sponsorship
Organizations are invited to sponsor the Code Sprint. A range of packages are available offering different opportunities for organizations to support the geospatial development community while promoting their products or services. Visit the Event Sponsorship page for more information.
New Developer level membership
Also of interest to developers is OGC’s recently announced Developer member category, designed for individuals keen to engage more closely with the OGC Community. The new category will be launching soon, but please visit this page for more information and to hear about it when it launches.
To learn more about how OGC Standards work together to provide modular “building blocks for location” that address both simple and the most complex use-cases, visit developer.ogc.org, join the OGC’s Discord Server or follow along on X and Mastodon at #OGCAPI and #CODESPRINT25.
